Activation Status:

The summer months of June, July and August are the most likely activation times.
Tornadoes and other weather incidents are the most likely reason for activations.
For this reason, we are working extremely close with Skywarn. If you haven't had the
Skywarn class in more than two years, contact me by email and I will work with the
NWS in Amarillo to schedule a class.

Echolink Conference

The Texas County Amateur Radio Emergency Service is now sponsoring an Echolink Conference. This conference is called *ARES_OK* and the node number is 391281. It can support 50 connections. This conference is for all ARES and Skywarn organizations in Oklahoma. Stations in neighboring states will also be welcome. If the conference server is too busy, you can also link to it by the KE5SUA-L node(377092). It can support an additional 25 connections. These conferences and links are designed to facilitate enhanced communications capabilities for regular informational nets and emergency nets. The conference is not to replace existing HF, VHF and UHF nets, it is intended to be added to these resources.

Currently, only call signs with the prefixes of *ANKWVGB are allowed to connect. These are English speaking countries. If you know of another English speaking country that is not listed, please inform me and I will add them.

The *ARES_OK* Conference is hosted on the rtpDir platform. I have attempted to host with theBridge with no success. rtpDir's developer is in constant contact and provides excellent support. rtpDir can be used as a conference server as well as a repeater, link and user node application.

The TCARES nets will be held on the first Mondays of the each month at 1930 (7:30 PM) on 146.55 MHz Simplex. The first net will be held April 7th. Why are we using simplex? Simple answer. Even repeaters can go down in emergencies. We are going to work with George, KY5C, the trustee for the N5DFQ repeater in Guymon to operate a net on the repeaters. We will not end the simplex nets. Check back for more developments. TCARES will also work towards getting a portable repeater with a generator for use in wide spread emergencies.
